TiszaBy Lauren Jordan 8A
Q.what was done at the time to fix the problem? Was this the best idea? A.The first leak occurred on the 30th of January 2000 and on the 31st of January the leak in the reservoir was fixed. By the 3rd of February the cyanide water had reached the Tisza River. On the 6th of February the second leak in the reservoir occurred. As a result of the leakages the river was polluted for about 30-35 km. They also removed over 100,000 kg of dead fish and there was more dead fish but some had sunk to the bottom of the river. I do not think that it was the best solution because maybe if they had checked the whole reservoir when they were fixing the first leak they may have prevented the second cyanide leak.
